The Move-In Day Mafia is a “mob” of volunteers who descend upon HBCUs (Historically Black Colleges & Universities) to provide dorm room makeovers and ongoing assistance primarily for freshmen who have aged out of foster care, are homeless, or grappling with financial hardships.
For the 2023-2024 school year, we moved in 31 scholars across 5 HBCUs- Fisk in Nashville, Paul Quinn in Dallas, Howard in DC, Morgan State in Baltimore, and Prairie View A&M near Houston.
And for this move-in season we are going for 44 NEW SCHOLARS AT MORE HBCUS!
Our founder, TeeJ Mercer, a 25+ year Hollywood veteran was first made aware of the need of this particular demographic during HBCU Bingo where she and her band of "misfits" raised over $1 million in cash and prizes in less than 4 weeks and gave it away to 500 of the 2020 HBCU grads in a series of Bingo games that she produced like one of her TV shows.
One of the grads told her that as a kid in foster care, her social worker dropped her off on the curb at her HBCU with what little she had and left her.
That broke her heart. And she prayed for God to show her how could she help.
His answer...The Move-In Day Mafia.
